The project involves the remodeling of a residential building located at number 3 of the square, at the corner with Pintor Agrasot street, to transform it into an accommodation with up to 41 rooms. The necessary investment for this conversion has already been scheduled by the company.
The location is strategic, as Plaza de la Muntanyeta is close to tourist attractions in the Old Town and connects with the commercial hub of Maisonnave Avenue. Furthermore, it is integrated into the setting for many of the central events of the Fogueres festivities, an important seasonal draw.
The property currently has a basement, ground floor, and four upper floors. Intur's proposal includes expanding this configuration to gain two more floors, reaching six stories, similar to the adjacent building. This plan still requires municipal approval once the administrative process is completed.
According to consulted sources, the project already has a favorable urban compatibility certificate, although the building permit has not yet been granted. Therefore, specific deadlines for its operation cannot be precise, although it is expected to be operational within the next two years.
If the proposal receives final approval, the Alicante establishment would become the twelfth hotel operated by the chain. Intur manages hotels in tourist municipalities in the province of Castellón, such as Benicàssim and the capital, as well as in Valencia, Mallorca, Seville, San Sebastián, and Madrid.
No impediments are expected for municipal authorization, as the proposed regulation on the accommodation sector, initially approved last December, includes an exemption from maximum concentration ratios of places for four and five-star hotel projects, a category that Intur's initiative fits into.
Additionally, the hotel would be located in an urban area where the City Council has also planned a remodeling project. This involves the reorganization of Plaza de la Muntanyeta, linked to the upcoming contract for the exploitation of the underground car park, which includes the remodeling of the building and the public space above it by the future concessionaire.
