The Naturgy Foundation has selected twelve semifinalist projects for the VIII Efigy Technology Contest, among which the proposal from IES Jérica-Viver stands out, focusing on energy efficiency and sustainable water use.

The IES Jérica-Viver project, titled “Adiós a la cal con un imán” (Goodbye to Limescale with a Magnet), addresses the problem of limescale accumulation in pipes. The initiative investigates whether the application of external magnetic fields can reduce the formation of calcareous deposits. The results obtained suggest that magnets could be an economical alternative to traditional descalers.
This edition of the contest saw the participation of over 3,000 students from 3rd and 4th year of Compulsory Secondary Education from 35 educational centers across Spain, presenting a total of 102 projects. The objective of the Efigy Technology Contest is to promote the values of energy efficiency and foster technological vocations from an early age, sparking the curiosity and creativity of young people.

"Initiatives like this Contest allow students to get closer to real challenges of the energy transition, awaken vocations, and accompany them in their first steps towards impactful professions, thus contributing to a more sustainable and prepared society."
