The Valencian Generalitat has reaffirmed its support for the Armonia Green Castellon project, a new green ammonia production plant that IGNIS plans to install in Castelló de la Plana, considered strategic for economic and environmental development.

The second vice president and Minister of the Presidency, José Díez, held a meeting with the company to advance the implementation of this initiative. During the meeting, Díez reiterated the Generalitat's great interest in the project and confirmed the willingness to extend the letter of intent signed in June 2024.
This agreement allows the Monitoring Commission, comprising the company, the Castelló de la Plana City Council, the Port Authority of Castellón, and the Generalitat, to work in a coordinated manner to expedite the processing of necessary permits. The vice president highlighted that the plant has an extraordinary interest for the social and economic development of the province of Castellón and will contribute to the revitalization and decarbonization of the Valencian economy.

"This is a high value-added activity that will allow employed personnel to acquire important skills and knowledge related to the new technologies used."

The initiative, promoted by IGNIS through Armonia Green Castellon, SL, will be one of the first of its kind in the Valencian Community and, by production capacity, one of the largest in Spain. The plant is designed to produce 861,236 tons of green ammonia annually from water and renewable electricity, avoiding the emission of more than two million tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere.
The facility will have a maximum electricity demand of 1.05 GW and will exclusively use renewable energy. The green ammonia will be used for energy purposes, merchant mobility fuels, and long-haul transport, with the aim of accelerating the decarbonization of various sectors. The main hydrogen generation and green ammonia transformation facility will be located in the industrial area near the Castellón refinery, while the storage and loading terminal will be located in the Port of Castellón, to facilitate its maritime commercialization in international markets.
The project will be executed in three phases, with the completion of phase I scheduled for 2027, phase II for 2029, and phase III for 2031. The total planned investment amounts to 1.425 million euros. Additionally, the plant is estimated to generate indirect and induced employment for up to 1,200 people between 2024 and 2076, strengthening Castellón's industrial capacity and positioning the Valencian Community in the field of renewable energies and sustainable fuels.
