The new platform, promoted by the General Directorate of Environmental Quality and Education in collaboration with the General Directorate of Information Technologies and Communications, represents a significant advancement in environmental management and data processing related to air quality and emissions control.
Currently, the Valencian Surveillance Network has 82 active stations, of which 56 are owned by the Generalitat (52 fixed and 4 mobile) and 27 belong to other entities such as port authorities, city councils, or energy and industrial companies. These stations generate over 40 million data points annually, in addition to 27,000 laboratory determinations carried out by Public Health.
The PICA platform, already presented in the three provinces of the Comunitat Valenciana, has been initially launched for the air quality project, although in the future it will allow monitoring of any sensor-based system. Its main advantages include document centralization, direct access to files and measurements, as well as the automation of administrative notices and communications.
The tool centralizes and manages all information related to air quality in the Comunitat Valenciana, replacing the previous technological system, which had become limited due to the high volume of data and new interoperability needs.
The platform receives automatic information from sensors, manual data from laboratories, and validations from the Mediterranean Environmental Studies Centre (CEAM). It performs automatic calculations, generates alarms for exceeding thresholds, and produces statistical and regulatory compliance reports.
The system allows information visualization through dashboards, graphs, and geolocated maps, as well as facilitating data transmission to the Ministry and its integration with applications such as the GVA Aire app.
The Valencian network continuously measures parameters such as nitrogen dioxide, ozone, suspended particles, sulfur dioxide, or carbon monoxide, as well as other complex compounds. It also incorporates meteorological information to interpret the atmospheric behavior of pollutants.
The Integral Environmental Control Platform has an investment of over two million euros financed by the European Union, through the FEDER Comunitat Valenciana program for the 2021-2027 period.
The presentation event was attended by the councilor for Urban Planning, Housing, and Environment of the Torrent City Council, José Gozalvo, and the head of technical support for the General Directorate of European Funds of the Generalitat Valenciana, Julio Sanchís, along with representatives from the Generalitat, technicians, professionals, associations, and residents.
