The Ministry of Finance is preparing the auction of a central building in Alicante, located at number 47 on San Francisco street, after discarding its initial use for the expansion of the Sindicatura de Greuges.

This change of direction in the management of public autonomous heritage in the city of Alicante involves mobilizing an asset that had been reserved for the expansion of the headquarters of the Sindicatura de Greuges. This is the only Generalitat institution displaced from the autonomous capital to the city, apart from the Ministry of Innovation.
The Undersecretariat of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Employment agreed to purchase the property more than 20 years ago and, in 2007, approved its assignment to Les Corts Valencianes with the purpose of expanding the offices of the Valencian ombudsman, located on the perpendicular street Pascual Blasco. At that time, it was anticipated that the institution's staff would grow, requiring additional offices. In fact, in 2011, the pre-existing building was demolished, with only its facade preserved, which has remained shored up ever since.

"Our current activity does not require an action that involves gaining additional space, so we waive the expansion of our offices."

the Sindicatura de Greuges
The Mesa de Les Corts Valencianes agreed to request the Sindicatura de Greuges, in December 2025, to formally state whether it maintained its interest in using the property for the expansion of its headquarters. The Sindicatura responded negatively, arguing that its activity did not require more space. Thus, the Mesa de Les Corts withdrew the assignment of the building in an agreement adopted last February.
Since then, the property has been freed from a specific use, which has allowed it to be included in the next batch of properties to be alienated by the Generalitat in the next auction to be called in this 2026 fiscal year. For now, neither the price nor the sale conditions have been disclosed. The possibility of transferring it to the Ministry of Housing for public protection housing has been ruled out due to its small surface area, approximately 74 square meters, insufficient for that residential use.
San Francisco street, popularly known as the mushroom street, is distinguished by its central location and high influx of visitors, which could attract investors. Over the last decade, the opening of hospitality establishments, shops, and more recently, hotels and block tourist apartments, such as the Hotel BH San Francisco and BN Suites, has proliferated.
