Gandia has closed the first half of 2026 with historic figures in the labor market, registering the lowest unemployment rate in the last 18 years in June. The mayor, José Manuel Prieto, accompanied by the Councilor for Economy and Finance, Salvador Gregori, highlighted the positive trend of job creation and strengthening of the local economy.
In June, unemployment decreased by 99 people, and in four of the first six months of the year, a reduction has been recorded. Since June 2023, unemployment has fallen by 943 people (17.2%), positioning Gandia as the second municipality with over 45,000 inhabitants in the Valencian Community where unemployment has decreased the most, surpassing the average of large Valencian cities.
The local labor market shows a structural change, with a more stable dynamic less dependent on the tourist season. Employment evolution since 2023 is more regular, evidencing a diversified and resilient economy. The decrease in unemployment among people aged 25 to 44 has been 20.9% since the start of the legislature.
Regarding Social Security affiliations, June closed with 1,142 more affiliations than the previous year (a 5% increase), also being the best June figure in the last 18 years. Since the start of the legislature, Gandia has added 2,985 more affiliations (13.3%), exceeding 25,000 affiliated people for the first time.
Salvador Gregori emphasized the importance of municipal financial stability to foster economic activity. The City Council will reduce its debt by 102 million euros since 2015, going from over 350 million to approximately 248 million, nearly 30% less debt per inhabitant.
The mayor insisted on the rigorous management and sound financial situation of the City Council, stating that Gandia is advancing with greater economic strength thanks to investment and the generation of quality employment.
