This hackathon, which already has over 80 registered participants from the Valencian Community, Madrid, and Zaragoza, seeks to consolidate Gandia as a benchmark in health innovation. The initiative brings together undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students to address challenges related to healthy cities.
“"We want to consolidate Gandia as a space where young talent contributes real solutions to improve health in cities."
This year's edition focuses on the impact of obesity and its relationship with cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. The main objective is to design initiatives that reduce these risks, using a medium-sized city like Gandia as a model.
The manager of the Gandia Health Department has emphasized the importance of addressing these problems from a global perspective, considering biological and environmental factors. This includes analyzing urban planning, mobility, nutrition, and social inequalities to develop effective solutions.
“"Local public policies have enormous potential to improve the health of the population."
The event coordinator, a professor of Biomedical Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, highlighted the multidisciplinary nature of the hackathon, which brings together students from engineering, medicine, and pharmacy. The challenge combines creativity and data analysis to generate viable and evidence-based proposals.
