The legendary Pirámide nightclub, a landmark of the Ruta del Bakalao in Cabanes, is being demolished to make way for a vehicle compound owned by the multinational company Copart.

The demolition of the iconic complex, located on the outskirts of Cabanes, marks the end of an era for thousands of people who visited the nightclub for years. The American company Copart, specializing in online auctions of damaged, broken, and used vehicles, has acquired the property for approximately 300,000 euros.
The purchase process began in November 2024, when the company contacted the Cabanes City Council. The mayor, Virginia Martí, recalls that the initial contact occurred shortly after a DANA (severe storm), generating some skepticism within the council. The plot's location on undeveloped land has been a key factor limiting previous projects.
To implement its activity, Copart requires a Declaration of Community Interest (DIC), an authorization from the Generalitat that certifies the land use complies with the Law on Territorial Planning, Urbanism, and Landscape of the Valencian Community (Lotup). This process is already underway for the creation of a large car compound where vehicles will be auctioned online.
The Pirámide nightclub and, subsequently, the San Lázaro banquet hall, closed their doors after changing hands multiple times and entering bankruptcy proceedings. The property became undivided co-ownership among several entities, including banks and Sareb. In November 2021, the property was advertised on sales platforms for 940,000 euros, a price that was reduced to 300,000 euros to attract investors. The sale was finalized at the end of 2025.
The mayor of Cabanes points out that, in addition to the purchase price, significant debts accumulated by the complex since its last period of operation, such as IBI (property tax) and other levies, must be added. This transaction signifies the definitive end of a nostalgic era in the town.
