Elche Exceeds 168,500 Vehicles in 2026 with a 2.31% Increase

The city of Elche registered a total of 168,596 vehicles in its municipal registry during 2026, representing an increase of 3,808 units compared to the previous year.

This increase represents a rise of 2.31% and confirms the continuous growth of Elche's vehicle fleet. Passenger cars remain the most numerous category, and a sustained advance in vehicles with ecological labels is observed.
The most prominent segment of the census corresponds to passenger cars between 8 and 12 fiscal horsepower, with 67,482 vehicles, after adding 1,239 units in the last year. Likewise, vehicles under 8 fiscal horsepower are those that grow the most proportionally, with an 11.01% increase, reaching 11,175 units. High-end vehicles, with more than 20 fiscal horsepower, also experience an 8.52% increase, adding 117 units for a total of 1,491.
Motorcycles maintain their upward trend in almost all segments. Those up to 125 cubic centimeters increase by 4.38%, reaching 10,432 units. Motorcycles from 250 to 500 cc rise by 6.75%, exceeding 2,484 units. The largest percentage increase in this section is recorded in motorcycles over 1,000 cc, with a 6.95% increase, adding 72 units for a total of 1,108. Conversely, mopeds continue their downward trend, albeit more moderately, with 52 fewer units and a total of 5,907.
Of the total of 3,808 new vehicles incorporated into Elche's fleet, 249 are low-emission or hybrid, and 253 are electric or zero-emission. In total, the city now has 2,506 vehicles with an ecological label, of which 1,715 are hybrids and 791 are electric. These vehicles benefit from tax advantages in the municipal tax, with 50% bonuses for hybrids and 75% for electric vehicles, reflecting a progressive implementation of more sustainable models.
The municipal forecast for this year is to collect over 13 million euros through the Mechanical Traction Vehicle Tax (IVTM), which is 203,000 euros more than in 2025. The number of vehicles exempt from paying the tax stands at 4,174, 3.56% less than last year. The voluntary period for paying this tax will remain open until May 11.
