Port of Alicante Strengthens Growth in Cargo and Containers

Cargo traffic increases by 26%, containers by 33%, and exports by 66% in the first seven months of the year.

The Port of Alicante maintains a positive trend during the first seven months of 2026, with significant growth in cargo, containers, and exports, accompanied by an investment plan to enhance its competitiveness.

The Port of Alicante handled 1,977,253 tons of cargo up to July 2026, a 26.06% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This growth confirms the dynamism of port activity and Alicante's role as a key logistics infrastructure for foreign trade.
General cargo reached 1,150,563 tons, an increase of 45.85%, primarily driven by containerized cargo. Container traffic grew by 32.66%, moving 143,489 TEU.
Exports experienced a strong boost, reaching 594,714 tons, a 65.65% increase from the previous year, consolidating the port as a platform for the export of products to international markets.
Bulk cargo also grew, with a 63.84% increase in liquid bulk and 3.59% in solid bulk. Ro-Ro traffic rose by 26.01%, with 60,988 tons.
Logistics activity is reflected in the 43.28% increase in vehicles linked to port traffic (58,586 units). The gross tonnage of ships operated has grown by 13.24%.
Cruise tourism maintains a positive balance, with 239,596 passengers accumulated until July (an 11.72% increase). Cruises account for 158,853 passengers (a 25.46% increase) and 53 calls.
The Port Authority of Alicante plans to mobilize 241 million euros in public-private investment between 2026 and 2030. The plan includes improvements to Pier 19 (45 million), railway works (13.6 million), the development of the Master Plan for the Littoral Front (10.2 million), the implementation of the OPS system (16 million), and the Smart Port project (6 million).
