The Castelló City Council is promoting local ceramics, turning public buildings and spaces into showcases for a key sector for the city's economy.

The Mayoress of Castelló, Begoña Carrasco, has highlighted the municipal government's commitment to promoting the use of Castellón ceramics in public works. The aim is for streets, squares, markets, and municipal buildings to become permanent showcases for one of the city's main economic drivers.
“Our commitment to the products of our land and our companies is firm and decisive, because supporting our productive sectors also means supporting employment, wealth, and the growth of Castelló. And talking about Castelló necessarily means talking about ceramics,” stated Carrasco.
This commitment is reflected in municipal procurement processes, which include the requirement to use ceramics in the tender documents for new projects, aiming for a greater presence of local products in urban transformation.
Carrasco recalled projects such as the renovation of Ferrandis Salvador avenue, the Sant Antoni Market, the new Parkinson center, or the Municipal Library 5.0, which already incorporate ceramics. Furthermore, it will be present in the new Central Market, renovations of the South and Grao District Offices, and the Pérgola.
The new Municipal Library 5.0, set to open soon, is a notable example, incorporating 1,674 square meters of ceramic material for both flooring and wall coverings, making it a distinctive feature of the building.
The library renovation involved an investment of 3,861,059 euros, with 2,617,263 euros financed by the European Union through the Next Generation EU funds.
The Mayoress linked this policy with the celebration of Cersaie in Bologna, a major international event for the ceramic sector, where Castellón companies are showcasing their latest innovations.
Carrasco insisted that “ceramics are part of our identity, and we want them to be the skin of Castelló. We have an industry that is one of the main economic engines of our province, and the City Council must stand by it.” The goal is for the city to serve as a showcase and a laboratory for new applications and innovative uses of ceramic products.
