The German DIY multinational Bauhaus has officially begun construction on its future store in Torrevieja, with an investment of nearly 40 million euros and an anticipated opening in the first quarter of 2027.

This project is expected to create approximately 250 jobs, of which 150 will be direct and 100 indirect, linked to associated services such as maintenance, cleaning, security, or catering.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Bart Ginneberge, CEO of Bauhaus in Spain, highlighted that the new center will be the company's third in the Valencian Community and its fifteenth in Spain. He emphasized the investment of nearly 40 million euros for the construction of this new center.
The establishment will be built on a plot of approximately 30,000 square meters and will have a built area of about 13,000 square meters. Of this, 9,000 square meters will be for the main store, 1,700 square meters for the construction materials area, and 2,300 square meters for the City Garden area.
The company also announced that the building will incorporate various sustainability measures, such as the installation of photovoltaic panels capable of generating approximately 35% of the energy consumed, rainwater harvesting systems, and charging points for electric vehicles.

"Today is a great day because these works are starting, which will improve the city's commercial offerings and generate employment for the people of Torrevieja."

Eduardo Dolón · Mayor of Torrevieja
The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, underscored the project's relevance for the city and its impact on the local economy. He added that the arrival of such a large retail area can boost the municipality's commercial sector and foster competition, ultimately benefiting consumers.
With this new establishment, Bauhaus will expand its presence in the Valencian Community, where it already has centers in Paterna and Alfafar, and will approach 1,000 jobs generated in the region, including both direct and indirect positions.
The store will be located in the La Hoya sector, a developing area next to the CV-905 designated for commercial use within a large urban development project that includes thousands of homes and new areas of economic activity in the municipality.
The implementation of Bauhaus in Torrevieja comes after an administrative process that has lasted almost a decade. The major building permit was initially granted by the City Council in August 2024, but the procedure had to be repeated after competitor Leroy Merlin appealed the authorization, arguing that the public exhibition process for the project had been omitted. The court upheld that appeal and ordered the restart of the file from that point. Leroy Merlin has again taken the procedure to court, which has not prevented Bauhaus from starting the construction of its new store in the locality.
