The winning project, named Trencadís, is the work of García Rodríguez Alcoba Oficina de Arquitectura, a multidisciplinary firm based in Madrid. This proposal was selected last December for its ability to integrate with the surroundings and offer a privileged view of the Palmeral de Elche (Elche Palm Grove).
The award, which includes both project drafting and construction management, has an allocation of 6.3 million euros. According to official forecasts, the completion of the works is scheduled for December 2028.
The 'Trencadís' project stands out for its ability to activate the street, elevate views, engage with the palm grove from a privileged position, and clearly organize the building's functionality. The result is a project with a strong urban presence and excellent functional performance, fully adapted to the needs and identity of Elche.
The first prize of the preliminary design competition, valued at 108,900 euros, is considered an advance payment towards the total fees. The remaining 266,000 euros allocated for awards were distributed among the second and third-place winners, as well as for several honorable mentions and special mentions.
Despite the award, there is no detailed official timeline for the next steps yet. Sources from the Provincial Council have highlighted the complexity of administrative procedures. The public exhibition of the project, initially planned for January 2026, is expected to take place at some point this year.
