The Albaterense Benevolent Electric Cooperative has inaugurated its new 'Manuel Serna Serna' Solar Farm, a 2.5 million euro investment to promote self-consumption and energy savings in the municipality.

After almost a century of providing electricity service to Albatera, the Albaterense Benevolent Electric Cooperative continues to promote initiatives for more responsible and efficient consumption. The inauguration of the 'Manuel Serna Serna' Solar Farm on April 21 marks a milestone in its commitment to renewable energy and savings for its members.
This project, which began to take shape in 2017 due to the constant increase in energy prices, has involved an investment of 2.5 million euros, fully financed by the cooperative itself. In 2020, the land was acquired, and subsequently, 6,154 photovoltaic panels were installed over an area of 67,271 m², with an installed capacity of 3.1 MW.

"This new configuration of the photovoltaic plant that we are inaugurating today will grant each of the members' contracts a portion of this installation. It is as if we were to place photovoltaic panels on each of the contracts of this Cooperative, saving the toll, charges, and energy costs during solar production hours."

The estimated annual production of this installation is 5.1 million kWh, which will result in a reduction of 1.3 tons of CO2 emissions. Furthermore, thanks to the recent approval of the Comprehensive Response Plan to the Crisis in the Middle East, which allows collective self-consumption to be extended up to 5,000 meters, members will be able to benefit from annual savings of 500,000 euros on their energy bills.
The solar farm has been dedicated to Manuel Serna Serna, who served as vice president of the cooperative from 1974 to 1999, in recognition of his commitment and dedication. The Albaterense Benevolent Electric Cooperative, founded in 1929, continues its social work, allocating 30% of its annual profits to the cultural, sports, and associative fabric of the municipality, and offering a social bonus for the most vulnerable families.

"Today we highlight solar energy, renewable energy, but above all, we highlight cooperatives. From the Albaterense Benevolent Electric Cooperative, we will continue to provide additional values such as in-person attention, proximity, and human treatment, as well as adopting the necessary measures to offer a quality supply at the best price."
