Unemployment in Madrid drops 1% in June, reaching 269,809 jobless

The Community of Madrid registers 2,733 fewer unemployed than in May, continuing a year-on-year downward trend.

The number of registered unemployed in the Community of Madrid decreased by 1% in June, reaching 269,809 jobless, which is 2,733 fewer people than the previous month.

Nationally, the total number of unemployed in Spain stood at 2,291,982 people in June, falling below the 2.3 million mark for the first time since January 2008, according to data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy. Last month's registered unemployment drop is the worst figure for a June since 2020, excluding the 2008 financial crisis.
In the Community of Madrid, unemployment fell by 1% in June, with 2,733 fewer unemployed compared to May. Over the past year, the year-on-year decrease in the Madrid region has been 1.79%, with 4,929 fewer unemployed than in June 2025.
National registered unemployment dropped by 28,739 people in June, primarily in the services sector, boosted by the summer season in tourism and hospitality. Unemployment decreased in 11 autonomous communities, notably in Andalusia, Galicia, and Castilla y León, while it rose in six, led by Murcia and the Basque Country.
By provinces, registered unemployment fell in 42, with significant decreases in Cádiz, Málaga, and Madrid. Unemployment among foreigners nationally rose by 1.2% in June, standing at 342,086 people.
In the Community of Madrid, unemployment among men decreased by 1,886 people (to 108,307), and among women it fell by 847 (to 161,502). Youth unemployment (under 25s) dropped by 580 people, to 17,166.
By sectors in the Madrid region, Services accounts for the largest number of unemployed (218,844), followed by Construction (16,864), Industry (14,320), and Agriculture (1,648). The group with no prior employment totals 18,133 unemployed.
Registered unemployment among foreigners in the Community of Madrid stood at 49,185 people, a 0.82% decrease from the previous month. Nationally, unemployment fell in services, industry, and construction, but increased in the group with no prior employment.
