Mercamadrid has announced that its popular race, the Mercamadrid 10K, will now adopt a biennial frequency. The next edition will take place in 2027, marking the start of a new phase for this initiative that combines sports, food, and citizen participation in a professional environment.
This change responds to the desire to evolve the event, allowing more time for organization, enhancing attendee experience, and programming activities. The race maintains its core concept of allowing participants to tour the interior of Mercamadrid, gaining close insight into the food chain that ensures the supply of fresh food to the city.
The race route passes through the central markets for fish, fruits, vegetables, and meats, as well as the hospitality warehouse and logistics areas, opening a space typically dedicated to professional activity to the general public.
The Mercamadrid 10K, part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, promotes sports practice and healthy lifestyle habits. It also brings citizens closer to the reality of the food chain and the work of companies and professionals in the sector.
Over its previous eight editions, thousands of people have participated in the race, which has also benefited from the collaboration of companies, associations, and entities linked to the food hub. This involvement from the entire Mercamadrid ecosystem transforms the event into a meeting point between the sector and the public.
The program is complemented by an open house day for all audiences, featuring activities such as a children's race, fresh product tastings, a tourist train, educational proposals, and various leisure spaces, showcasing the dimension and diversity of daily activities within the food hub.
With the new biennial format, Mercamadrid aims to continue improving the experience for participants and visitors, and to strengthen the participation of companies and collaborating entities. The next event in 2027 will maintain its open and participatory character, consolidating the initiative that connects food activity with values such as healthy living and coexistence.
