While the private sector in Majadahonda celebrates new investments and a moderation in rental prices, the public sector faces a series of economic and labor challenges. Various situations highlight the complexity of resource management and the demands of public employees in the locality.
One of the points of conflict centers on the Carlos III Institute of Majadahonda, where civil servants demand the maintenance of a free bus service for their commute to work. The Ministry has communicated a lack of funds to sustain this benefit, generating discontent among workers, who have expressed their dissatisfaction to the Minister of Health, Mónica García, during a visit to the locality.
“"40 years with a transport service that they now want to reduce to ashes, because “there is no money."
Furthermore, the Majadahonda City Council allocates 400,000 euros annually to the Alicante City Council for the management of its tax collection, despite having a staff of 700 public employees. This collaboration, renewed for another four years, has been approved by the Governing Council of Suma, the body of the Alicante Provincial Council responsible for this management.
In the security sector, the UGT union has expressed its opposition to the reduction of the public security contract for Monte del Pilar in Majadahonda. The union denounces possible irregularities in the award criteria, arguing that excessive weight is given to price to the detriment of quality, which could violate the Public Sector Contracts Law.
Finally, at RENFE, unions have called for strikes on May 6, affecting 2,700 workers, including those from the central offices in Majadahonda. The protest arises from the management's refusal to grant a bonus for objectives, citing accumulated losses of 220 million euros over the last two years. Employees, who have not received this bonus for two years, believe the company maintains a “zero salary increase” policy.
In an attempt to generate revenue, RENFE has implemented an application, Mowiz, to facilitate parking at stations such as Majadahonda, Las Rozas, and Pozuelo. This platform allows digital validation and mobile payment, promoting the use of free park-and-ride facilities for public transport users with a valid ticket, in an agreement with the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid.
