The incident, which occurred last Tuesday, has led to the interruption of public services for procedures requiring network connection or computer devices. Despite this, essential registration tasks are still being carried out.
Upon learning of the situation, the local Government immediately notified the National Cryptologic Center and relevant authorities. Municipal IT services are working closely with these entities to resolve the incident as quickly as possible.
“"Despite having security measures in place to prevent such incidents, zero risk does not exist in either private or public institutions."
As a preventive measure, the servers have been disconnected to avoid any additional risk to the Council's IT systems. Given the possibility that personal data held by Valdemoro City Council may have been accessed, the Council has issued a series of recommendations to prevent fraudulent acts.
Suggested precautions include not opening suspicious links, being especially cautious with emails or messages requesting confidential information, changing passwords for currently used services and platforms, and not providing passwords or PINs, as the City Council will never request this information via insecure means. It is also advised to contact your bank if any anomaly is detected and to file a report with the National Police or Civil Guard if potential identity misuse is discovered.
