The Government has authorized an investment of 13,328,855.86 euros, to be executed between 2025, 2026, and 2027, for the modernization of the infrastructure at the Central Veterinary Laboratory (LCV) located in Algete. This center, under the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, is a European benchmark in animal health and has accumulated decades of experience since its founding in the 1970s.
The LCV has played a crucial role in eradicating diseases such as equine encephalomyelitis, being designated a European Reference Laboratory in 1992. Later, in 2019, it assumed the role of European reference for bluetongue diagnosis. Currently, its areas of work have expanded to include animal genetics and the detection of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in plant products.
The renovation addresses the need to update facilities that require significant intervention. The majority of the budget will be concentrated in 2026 (7,157,602.85 euros) and 2027 (6,082,169.83 euros), with an initial allocation of 89,083.18 euros in 2025 for processing the necessary paperwork.
These funds, authorized by the Council of Ministers under Article 47 of the General Budgetary Law, will also be used to enhance the National Agrarian Accounting Network, adapting to new statistical requirements for 2026 and 2027.
