The Community of Madrid has promoted the hiring of 53,969 individuals with disabilities in Special Employment Centers (CEE) since the beginning of 2023. These figures have been achieved thanks to subsidies that can cover up to 65% of the salary costs for these workers.
The Minister of Economy, Finance, and Employment, Rocío Albert, highlighted the importance of these centers during a visit to the Sana Locura cafeteria in the capital. This establishment, a beneficiary of the aid, combines its commercial activity with the training of people with disabilities, producing gluten-free products.
“"Two fundamental things are combined. On one hand, they produce gluten-free products, and on the other, most importantly, people with some type of disability work here."
Albert emphasized the commitment of the workers, stating that "employment is a source of autonomy, confidence, and dignity," and valued "the enthusiasm for what they do, the pride in doing it well, and the satisfaction of feeling part of this project" as key elements of these initiatives.
Currently, the region has 252 Special Employment Centers providing jobs for over 20,000 people with disabilities. The regional government has allocated more than 340 million euros during the current legislature to cover salary costs, in addition to 14.8 million euros for support units aimed at removing workplace barriers.
“"This allows these individuals to be autonomous and, by being so, have that dignity and be able to live independently."
To streamline the management of these subsidies, the regional government has implemented a specific computer application that allows centers to submit documentation electronically through the Community of Madrid's institutional website.
