According to estimates from the Cabildo's Data Center, this situation disproportionately affects women, with 3,819 unemployed, compared to 2,961 men. Despite this overall increase, some municipalities experienced decreases in their figures.
The municipal breakdown shows that Arrecife added 14 job seekers, reaching 3,443; Haría registered 3 more, totaling 267; Teguise added 7, reaching 816; and Tías increased by 14, standing at 696. In contrast, San Bartolomé saw a reduction of 1 unemployed person (792 in total), Tinajo decreased by 10 (241), and Yaiza dropped by 2 (521).
This increase is considered circumstantial, given that February had marked the best record in several decades. Furthermore, compared to the end of the first quarter of the previous year, the island currently has 578 fewer unemployed professionals across its seven municipalities.
By age group, those over 60 constitute the largest segment of job seekers, totaling 1,267 people at the end of March. At the other end, young people aged 20 or less represent 64 job seekers in the official record.
Regarding hiring, the first quarter of the year has been favorable, with 14,142 employment agreements signed across all categories. This figure represents a 1.4% increase compared to the same period in 2025. March was particularly notable, with 5,059 contracts signed, according to the Data Center. The trend in contract signings reverses the gender distribution observed in unemployment, with more men (7,658) being hired than women (6,484).
