The Forum of Innovative Companies (FEI) has highlighted the work of UNIRISCO, which now spans 25 years of driving innovation and knowledge transfer. The Director General of UNIRISCO, Inmaculada Rodríguez Cuervo, accepted the award in Madrid during the 14th edition of the FEI Recognitions.
Rodríguez Cuervo emphasized that the award belongs to the Galician universities that 25 years ago "had the vision to bet on a pioneering transfer model in Spain," as well as to the partners who support UNIRISCO: "companies from the Galician productive sector committed to investing in science and technology, contributing to the creation of businesses and qualified employment, driving Galicia's economic development."
UNIRISCO was the first venture capital company linked to university projects and authorized by the CNMV in 2001. Its model was designed to accompany the transformation of research results and scientific knowledge into business projects.
"25 years ago, when UNIRISCO spoke of private investment in university spin-offs, it was much less common than today. Having contributed to building that transfer culture is probably one of our greatest achievements," stated Inmaculada Rodríguez Cuervo.
The entity has supported the creation of over 40 business projects in fields such as biotechnology and health, digital technologies, environment, industrial digitalization, and new materials. These projects have a combined turnover of €40 million, have created over 500 jobs, and generated more than 150 patents. "We act as the first private capital in turning science into a product or service," she explained.
