In the Hegialde neighborhood of Legazpi, Rosa Mari Burcio has realized her dream at the age of 60: she has opened her own paint and interior design store, 'Santa Cruz Margoak'. After a life dedicated to various jobs, she has decided to start her own business, stating with enthusiasm that she is just beginning, rather than thinking about retirement.
Born in 1966, Rosa Mari's father emigrated from Jarandilla de la Vera to Legazpi for work. She is the fifth of seven siblings and began working before she turned 14, initially as a live-in domestic worker in Donostia. Subsequently, she has held various roles, including domestic employee, in hospitality, nightclubs, as part of the municipal brigade, in home care services, at chocolate factories, and in cleaning companies.
A turning point in her life came with the sale of a family home in Jarandilla de la Vera. With that money, she decided to take over the paint shop that had been closed for years in Hegialde. Her husband is a muralist painter, and she has always been interested in decoration and crafts. She describes herself as 'handy' and creative, and very determined not to give up without trying.
The store's inauguration took place on April 24th, and since then, she has received significant support from customers. "People are supporting me a lot. If they ask for something I don't have, I tell them 'I'll find it for you'. The customer has the idea, and I have the key to achieve it," she explains happily.
