Orkli explained that the Belcor project, which aims to create 100 new jobs within five years, focuses on designing solutions to mitigate risks associated with battery usage, particularly in activities related to electrification, energy transition, and sustainable mobility. These solutions prevent adverse thermal events between battery cells.
This project will be developed in collaboration with the German firm Belchem GmbH, with whom the cooperative from Ordizia already has a working relationship. This partnership will be strengthened through this project to advance more innovative battery system safety solutions. The Belcor product range has already attracted interest from "leading automotive manufacturers based in Europe," as well as from Asian manufacturers planning to enter the European market.
This new product line will necessitate modifications to Orkli's facilities in Ordizia, which will need to be adapted for these innovative solutions requiring new personnel. The planned investment exceeding 50 million euros will be supported by subsidies from the Electric and Connected Vehicle PERTE (PERTE VEC), aimed at fostering an industrial ecosystem capable of developing and manufacturing electric and connected vehicles to counter growing foreign competition.
Orkli also benefits from the support of the Mondragon Group, its parent organization. The group will provide backing through internal promotion mechanisms, thereby reinforcing Orkli's commitment to industrial innovation, sustainability, and the creation of quality employment.
