Unemployment Rises by Over 12,000 in Camp de Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre

The number of unemployed individuals in the region reached 56,500 during the first quarter of 2026, according to the EPA.

The Camp de Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre regions experienced an increase of 12,100 unemployed individuals during the first quarter of 2026, bringing the total figure to 56,500 jobless.

This data, derived from the Active Population Survey (EPA), represents a growth exceeding 28.3% compared to the 44,400 unemployed in the previous quarter. A year ago, the region had 55,500 people without work, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
The rise in unemployment has been particularly significant among men, increasing from 19,400 at the end of 2025 to 28,100 in the current period. For women, the increase was less pronounced, moving from 25,000 to 28,400.
Regarding employment, the number of people working in the area stood at 391,800, a decrease of 7,600 compared to the last quarter of 2025. However, when compared to the same period last year, an increase of 15,900 employed individuals is observed.
By sector, services continue to be the main driver of employment in Camp de Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre, with 268,200 workers. Industry follows with 67,500, construction with 40,800, and agriculture with 15,300.
