The unemployment rate in the province of Tarragona has dropped by 2.5 points compared to the first quarter, standing at 10.16% at the end of the second quarter of the year. This figure represents an improvement of 1.3 points compared to the previous year and is the fourth lowest recorded since 2009. Despite this decrease, the province of Tarragona continues to be the Catalan region with the highest unemployment rate, surpassing Lleida (6.9%), Barcelona (7.6%), and Girona (7.7%).
In absolute terms, the province of Tarragona registers approximately 47,000 unemployed individuals, 9,500 fewer than in the previous quarter. This trend is accompanied by an increase in the number of employed individuals, which amounts to 415,700 people. This signifies 24,000 more workers than in the first quarter and about 22,800 more compared to the second quarter of 2025.
By sectors, services have generated the most jobs, with an increase of 28,200 people compared to the first quarter, rising from 268,200 to 296,400 employed. Industry has also added 3,700 jobs, exceeding 70,000 workers. In contrast, construction and agriculture have experienced a decline in employment. The construction sector has lost 3,300 jobs, falling from 40,800 to 37,500, while agriculture has seen 4,600 fewer workers, totaling 10,700 compared to the 15,300 in the first three months of the year.
