The Government has approved an agreement with RTVE to enhance the Catalan audiovisual offering, with TV3 broadcasting in ultra-high definition (UHD) and a new RTVE Catalunya channel entirely in Catalan.

The Generalitat de Catalunya, through the Department of the Presidency, and the Spanish Radio and Television Corporation (RTVE) have agreed to reserve radioelectric spectrum for the broadcast of programming entirely in Catalan from RTVE's production center in Sant Cugat del Vallès. This measure, part of the activation of the second autonomous coverage digital multiplex, will take effect from November 5th, coinciding with Day R (Resynchronization Day).
The Catalan Audiovisual Media Corporation (CCMA) will receive 50% of the new multiplex's capacity to enable TV3 to broadcast in ultra-high definition (UHD). This technology will significantly improve image and sound quality, placing the Catalan public audiovisual service at the forefront of television technological modernization in Spain.
A quarter of the multiplex's capacity will be allocated to RTVE Catalunya for a stable and continuous channel in Catalan, moving beyond the current model of time slots. This new channel will strengthen the presence of the Catalan language and the activity of the production center in Sant Cugat del Vallès.
The initiative also aims to boost the Catalan audiovisual industry by generating demand for content, fostering independent production, and creating new opportunities for professionals and companies in the sector. Furthermore, it seeks to reinforce informational pluralism and content diversity.
The remaining 25% of the multiplex's capacity is reserved for a future private operator, to be selected by the CAC through a public tender. This combination of public and private operators aims to foster a more plural, balanced, and sustainable audiovisual ecosystem.
