Hundreds of workers marched through the center of Barcelona this Saturday to protest against the redundancy plan that threatens 211 jobs at the Nissan company.

The demonstration, which began near Urquinaona Square, served to denounce what unions describe as a progressive dismantling of the company's industrial activity in Catalonia. Most of the affected employees work at the spare parts center in El Prat de Llobregat and the technical areas of the Zona Franca.
The company justifies the move citing production and organizational reasons, but union representatives argue that the plants are viable and that this is a disguised closure. The situation is critical, as the consultation period ends this Tuesday, with a decisive meeting scheduled for Monday mediated by the Department of Labor.

"It is a dismantling of Nissan in Catalonia."

The protest was joined by staff from other industrial companies currently facing layoffs or bankruptcy proceedings. According to industry data, between January and April of this year, nearly 3,000 people have lost their jobs due to redundancy plans, a 36% increase compared to the same period last year.
