The event will culminate on April 29 with the final project presentations and award ceremony at the TR5 building, located on Colom street. This final stage in Terrassa will follow the mini-satellite launch day, which will take place on April 25 at Lleida-Alguaire airport.
More than 150 students from ESO, Baccalaureate, and Vocational Training will participate in this activity, which has selected 30 teams from over 100 registered across the country. Of these, 18 teams will officially compete with the launch of their CanSats inside rockets, while the rest will do so from a small plane in a non-competitive format.
Throughout the academic year, students have worked on the design and construction of these small satellites, the size of a soda can, equipped with sensors and telemetry systems. The challenge involves collecting data such as temperature or atmospheric pressure and developing their own scientific mission, which they will then analyze and defend before a jury.
The CanSat competition has established itself as one of the most important educational events in the STEM field in Catalonia. The winning team of the Catalan final will have the opportunity to represent the region in the national phase, with the goal of reaching the European final scheduled for June. Among the 18 finalist centers, there is representation from Terrassa with the IES Terrassa team, ITER Plèiades, as well as other institutes and schools from various locations.
