The Chambers of Commerce of Tarragona, Reus, Valls, and Tortosa have seen their confidence index improve by 0.6% in the April to June period. This figure contrasts sharply with significant drops recorded in other regions, such as 3.5% in Barcelona, 3% in Girona, and 1.1% in Lleida.
Across Catalonia as a whole, the economic outlook for businesses has worsened, with an average decline of 1.7% compared to the previous quarter. This information, released by the Institut d'Estadística de Catalunya (Idescat), highlights the unique position of the Tarragona region in the current economic landscape.
By sector, construction, trade, and industry show the most significant decreases in business confidence in Catalonia, with drops of 4.1%, 3.7%, and 2.8% respectively. Hospitality and transport experienced a less intense decline (-0.8%), while other services remained stable (0.0%).
Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the harmonized Business Confidence Index decreased by 1.6%. Hospitality and transport (-4.5%), along with industry (-3.7%), are the sectors with the most pronounced deterioration, followed by construction and trade (-1.6% and -1.5%). Only the other services sector showed a slight improvement of 0.3% year-on-year.
Regarding establishment size, all have seen their confidence diminish compared to the last quarter. Establishments with 10 to 49 employees lead the decline (-3.3%), followed by those with fewer than 10 and those with 200 to 999 employees (-1.6% in both cases). Larger establishments (1,000 or more employees) and those with 50 to 199 employees recorded less intense decreases (-0.5% and -0.3% respectively).
