The Minister of Business and Labor, Miquel Sàmper, visited the company Sensofar in Terrassa on Friday, April 10, acknowledging its pivotal role in the Catalan chip alliance and its impact on technological sovereignty.

Headquartered at the Parc Audiovisual de Catalunya, Sensofar has established itself as a leader in the development, manufacturing, and commercialization of advanced three-dimensional (3D) optical metrology instruments. Its specialization in non-contact technologies is crucial for industrial inspection, research and development (R&D), and the medical sector.

To contribute to the growth of the semiconductor ecosystem in Catalonia, consolidate the value chain, and accelerate innovation in highly strategic areas for greater technological and productive sovereignty in Catalonia and Europe.

Founded by Ferran Laguarta, a UPC professor, and Roger Artigas, a doctoral student, Sensofar is currently undergoing significant expansion, with its own offices in countries such as China, Korea, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The company markets its products under its own brand, with a combined turnover of 23 to 24 million euros between its Sensofar Metrology and Sensofar Medical divisions, and a workforce of approximately 120 employees.
Sensofar is an active participant in the Catalan Semiconductor and Chip Alliance, an initiative that brings together various industry stakeholders to define a consensual strategy to boost international positioning, growth, and competitiveness in the semiconductor field. This alliance facilitates access to funding, talent, and international collaboration projects.
According to data from ACCIÓ, the Government's agency for business competitiveness, the Department of Business has provided continuous support to Sensofar. In 2025 alone, the company received nearly 35,000 euros in aid for productive investments, totaling over 1 million euros in the last twenty years through various support programs. Currently, the Catalan semiconductor ecosystem comprises 260 entities, including companies, organizations, technology centers, and research institutes, employing over 4,600 highly qualified professionals.
