The multinational Saint-Gobain considers its plants in Baix Penedès strategic, especially for the automotive glass segment, reinforcing its presence in the area.

French company Saint-Gobain, a global leader in lightweight and sustainable construction, has emphasized the strategic importance of its facilities in Baix Penedès, specifically in L’Arboç, where it manufactures automotive glass. This commitment translates into a reinforcement of its presence in the province, with a special focus on the Baix Penedès plant.
The key segment for this strategy is Mobility, which encompasses all activities related to glazing for utility vehicles, passenger and freight transport, as well as automotive glazing after-sales services. The multinational's industrial presence in Spain is concentrated in Baix Penedès, where Saint-Gobain Sekurit operates two plants employing over 300 people.
With the recent establishment of the South Europe Manufacturing HUB, the company aims to consolidate the area's strategic role. This HUB, focused on performance and fostering synergies between plants, seeks to develop a profitable market from the United Kingdom to Morocco, offering competitive automotive solutions. In addition to the Catalan centers in L’Arboç and El Vendrell, the HUB includes plants in France (Chantereine, Aniche, Noyon) and Morocco (Kenitra).
The company acknowledges that "mobility is evolving very rapidly, and this transformation, driven by electrification, technological advancement, and an increasingly demanding regulatory framework, requires ever more coordinated and consistent organizations." In this regard, Saint-Gobain Sekurit España, the automotive division, highlights the objective to "strengthen competitiveness through efficiency, quality, and constant market adaptation," considering Tarragona a key piece in this path, according to Jorge Álvarez Arias, Managing Director of Saint-Gobain Sekurit España.
The Mobility segment covers three business lines: automotive (advanced glazing solutions for utility vehicles), transport (from buses and trains to the aerospace and maritime markets), and after-sales services (aftermarket) for replacement and maintenance. In the Iberian Peninsula, it operates under the brands Sekurit, Sekurit Service, and Glassdrive.
In the Baix Penedès region, Saint-Gobain Sekurit España has two facilities: one dedicated to the manufacturing of tempered glass rear windows and side windows (transparent, tinted, and deep-tinted), and another specializing in the encapsulation and extrusion of side glass.
In 2025, Saint-Gobain Sekurit España recorded sales of 190.8 million euros and a positive operating result, despite a challenging context for the automotive industry in Europe. For 2026, the company forecasts revenues exceeding 180 million euros, maintaining its strategy of sustainable growth.
Globally, the company employs 14,000 people in 18 countries, with 27 factories and 4 R&D centers. Saint-Gobain Sekurit is a supplier to most global automotive manufacturers and also serves the aerospace, rail, bus, coach, truck, agricultural and construction machinery, among other markets.
