The Port of Tarragona has reinforced its role as a key logistics hub for the energy transition during its participation in the III Renewable Ammonia Conference. The event, organized by the AEAR (Spanish Association of Renewable Ammonia), focused on developing a value chain for ammonia to contribute to decarbonization and reduce external dependencies.
During the conference, Port Tarragona's potential as a future hydrogen hub was highlighted, with a dual role of import and export, responding to the demand from the petrochemical cluster and the proximity of projects like H2Med. Opportunities related to ammonia bunkering are also being explored, expanding the services offered by the port.
In a panel discussion moderated by Enagàs, titled ‘Infrastructure, Ports, and New Uses of Ammonia’, representatives from port authorities such as Huelva, Algeciras, Cartagena, and Tarragona highlighted the real demand for renewable ammonia in both the industrial and maritime transport sectors. The need to promote green corridors and a defined regulatory framework to advance this sector was emphasized.
Jordi Anglès, Commercial Coordinator of Port Tarragona, emphasized the port's role as the main logistics partner for Southern Europe's largest petrochemical cluster and a hub for storing and distributing petrochemical products across Europe, consolidating it as one of the leading energy hubs in the Mediterranean.
