The company Nestlé has initiated negotiations for an employment regulation file (ERE) that could affect 178 workers in Catalonia, with the majority of layoffs concentrated at its Esplugues de Llobregat offices.

This Wednesday, the consultation period began between Nestlé and the unions regarding the ERE, which will impact 7% of the workforce in Spain. Of the 301 workers affected nationwide, more than half are located in Catalonia.
The central offices in Esplugues de Llobregat will be the most affected center, with 158 employees. Additionally, the Girona branch anticipates an adjustment of 12 workers, and Reus, 8, totaling 178 in the Catalan community.
The company justifies the ERE due to organizational reasons, including automation and digitalization. The unions, for their part, have requested the withdrawal of the file. The next negotiation meeting is scheduled for May 15, and the consultation process will extend until early June.
Aside from Catalonia, the ERE will also affect other autonomous communities. Cantabria will be the second most affected with 49 people at the La Penilla plant, followed by Galicia (27) and Madrid (26). The measure will primarily impact administrative technicians and manual laborers.
