According to data published by the National Statistics Institute (INE), this seven-tenth rise compared to March is mainly explained by the rising costs of basic supplies such as water, as well as increases in tobacco, alcohol, clothing, and footwear prices.

In Catalonia as a whole, the trend has been the opposite, with inflation moderating to 3%, a figure that remains below the national average, which stood at 3.2%. By province, Girona recorded 3.3%, Tarragona 3.2%, and Barcelona 2.8%.

Price behavior has been uneven across sectors. While the housing, water, and electricity group experienced a notable rise, household items were the only group that contributed to a decrease in the index. Regarding food, the increase moderated to 2.2%.

Looking ahead, the Government has announced that starting June 1st, some fiscal measures will be deactivated, leading to the return of VAT on electricity and natural gas to 21%. However, certain subsidies for sectors such as transport and agriculture will remain in force.
