After 17 months of continuous operation since the last refueling in autumn 2024, the plant has begun the planned work. This technical shutdown involves replacing 60 fuel elements, which constitute more than a third of the reactor core.
During this period, approximately 11,000 work orders will be executed, with over 90% corresponding to inspections and preventive maintenance. Additionally, significant improvements will be made to the facility, including 21 physical design modifications and 7 software updates across various plant systems.
Among the most notable projects of this refueling are the replacement of the reactor coolant pump 'B' motor, the overhaul of the 'C' pump seals, and the cleaning of the secondary circuit of the steam generators. Laser profilometry inspections of the thermal sleeves of the reactor vessel head and a remote visual inspection of the vessel's exterior will also be carried out.
A crucial activity to be performed is the containment spray system test, a procedure conducted every 10 years, in line with international operational experience and the plant's technical operating specifications.
The coordination of all these tasks requires extensive planning, initiated months in advance and involving all organizational units. The training of additional personnel, with over 1,800 course attendances, is fundamental to ensuring the safety and efficiency of the work.
