Junts councilwoman Joana Ortega will bring the request to the Economy and Treasury Commission, noting that some establishments with "decades of service" are facing "mismatches" between their activity and current licenses, often due to "reasons beyond their control".
Junts believes that current regulations "are not designed for their unique characteristics" and calls for studying modifications to prevent these historic businesses from closing. They also propose creating a census of establishments that could benefit from these changes.
Ortega highlighted the importance of these establishments, stating that "they cannot disappear because they are part of the landscape, identity, and imagination of our neighborhoods." Furthermore, she urged the city council to work towards ensuring generational succession in these emblematic businesses.
