CaixaBank and the Fisheries Local Action Group (GALP) Costa Brava have launched for the second year the Terra d'Oportunitats program, which rewards four initiatives from the Girona coastline. This initiative seeks to promote maritime and fishing entrepreneurship, create employment, and diversify the local economy while preserving cultural and natural heritage.
The awarded projects stand out for their combination of tradition, sustainability, and innovation in the marine sector. Each will receive 1,000 euros, along with support through mentoring and training programs to enhance their impact. The award ceremony will take place on September 17th at the Espai Medes in L'Estartit, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of GALP Costa Brava.
Among the awarded projects are Pirates Cap de Creus, offering des-seasonalized blue tourism and theatricalized cultural routes with low-consumption boats, investing in efficient electric systems. Clemente Oliveira Gonzalez has also been recognized for ensuring the future of artisanal fishing with new machinery. Barca Núria proposes guided excursions by biologists and fishermen to foster respect for the marine environment. Finally, the Centre d'Immersió Port de la Seva has renovated its equipment to improve safety and efficiency in diving.
In addition to financial support, the awardees will participate in free training on how to differentiate their businesses and avoid price competition, with online and in-person sessions. They will also join the national competition «El repte de Terra d'Oportunitats», competing with over 150 initiatives.
The Terra d’Oportunitats program is part of CaixaBank's Social Action strategy. GALP Costa Brava, established in 2016, brings together fishing guilds and socio-economic agents from the Girona coast, having allocated over 3.5 million euros to blue economy projects to promote sustainability and climate change adaptation.
