The Port of Tarragona has received a single bid for the concession of the multipurpose terminal at the Andalucía Dock, submitted by an alliance between a Chinese holding and an Argentine group, aiming to boost cargo diversification.

The Port Authority of Tarragona opened the first envelopes of the public tender on April 20 to select the new operator for this strategic area. The joint proposal comes from logistics operators linked to a Chinese holding and an Argentine business group, who have formalized their participation through a joint venture currently being established.
This terminal at the Andalucía Dock represents one of the key initiatives of the Port of Tarragona to transform its logistics model. The focus is on diversifying goods and attracting high value-added traffic, with the aim of consolidating the Tarragona enclave as a competitive port and a strategic logistics hub for the peninsula and Europe.
The joint venture that submitted the bid is composed of companies from the Chinese holding, which has a presence in 40 ports worldwide and owns the fourth-largest shipping company by volume, and the Argentine group, whose main activity is concentrated in Latin America.
The next stages of the process include the opening of the second envelope, containing the technical project documentation, scheduled for April 27, and the opening of the third envelope, which includes the economic proposal, set for May 13. The bidding process is expected to be resolved in June, with an estimated duration of one to two months.
The concession for the construction and operation of this multipurpose terminal offers a minimum area of 226,109 m² of land port domain, expandable up to 452,218 m² depending on the project. The concession title will have a duration of between 20 and 50 years, with a minimum private investment of 20 million euros. The new infrastructure aims to attract container traffic, non-containerized general cargo, vehicles, RoRo, and project cargo, with a minimum traffic volume of 125,000 TEU annually starting from 2031.
