Applus+ Laboratories and OKTICS, a CIMNE spin-off, have initiated a strategic collaboration to develop solutions for the Digital Product Passport (DPP).

The collaboration between Applus+ Laboratories and OKTICS, specializing in digital identity and traceability, primarily aims to drive the development of solutions for the Digital Product Passport (DPP). This agreement combines OKTICS' technological capabilities with Applus+' expertise in testing and certification to support manufacturers in implementing the DPP, within the framework of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).
The DPP will enable the creation of a dynamic and accessible record of each product's lifecycle, associating it with a digital identity containing structured information on composition, origin, reparability, environmental impact, and end-of-life. Unlike conventional labels, the DPP will accompany the product throughout its various lifecycle stages, providing data tailored to different value chain actors.

"We believe the Digital Product Passport should be seen as an opportunity to organize data, improve processes, and generate new digital capabilities around the product. The collaboration with Applus+ Laboratories allows us to continue advancing in realistic implementation models, especially in industrial sectors where traceability, technical documentation, and trust generation are increasingly relevant."

Eugenio Oñate · CEO of OKTICS
The initiative seeks to facilitate a progressive implementation of the DPP in companies with varying levels of digital maturity, adapting solutions to existing systems to avoid additional administrative burdens. Currently, OKTICS and Applus+ Laboratories are already working on pilot projects with manufacturers from different sectors to validate these models in real industrial environments.
OKTICS, a pioneer in smart labels, possesses proprietary technology that connects physical objects with dynamic and updatable digital information. This technology has already been applied in sectors such as textiles, food, and mobility, enhancing traceability and user interaction. The alliance with Applus+ Laboratories now extends these capabilities towards the deployment of the Digital Product Passport in industrial settings.
