Amazon has announced an investment of 5 billion euros in Catalonia over the last decade, generating over 8,000 jobs and significantly contributing to the Catalan GDP.

The multinational company detailed that, since the opening of its center in Castellbisbal in 2016, it has contributed over 4 billion euros to Catalonia's Gross Domestic Product. These figures were presented at an event at Foment del Treball, where a review of the company's ten years of activity in the region was conducted.

The company's management emphasized Catalonia's importance for its operations and advocated for a regulatory framework that fosters innovation, characterized by being “stable, efficient, and simplified.” They also called for an “equitable competitive environment” where all companies can operate under the same conditions, regardless of their nationality or sector.
Since its arrival in Spain in 2011, Amazon has invested a total of 20 billion euros and employs 28,000 permanent staff from over a hundred nationalities. This figure does not include temporary workers hired during peak demand periods or employees of small and medium-sized enterprises collaborating with the multinational.
In Catalonia, approximately 3,700 SMEs use the Amazon platform to market their products, representing 21% of the national total. These companies export goods worth over 340 million euros, demonstrating the company's commitment to the local business fabric.
Artificial intelligence was also a key point in the presentation, highlighting how this technology transforms work methods and enhances customer offerings. Amazon's AI systems can predict demand for over 400 million products, optimizing their placement in logistics centers and making deliveries faster, more efficient, and more sustainable. From the 22@ offices in Barcelona, with employees from over 70 nationalities, an AI system for filtering product reviews has been developed, and contributions have been made to the development of the Kindle Scribe.
