The Canary Islands ended June 2026 with 142,409 unemployed individuals, marking a 1.51% decrease from the previous month and a 5.50% drop compared to the previous year.

The labor market in the Canary Islands showed a positive trend in June 2026. According to official data released by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, the archipelago registered a total of 142,409 unemployed people, representing a 1.51% reduction compared to the previous month. On a year-on-year basis, unemployment fell by 5.50%, with 8,295 fewer jobless individuals than in June 2025.
The province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife led the unemployment decrease, in both absolute and percentage terms. By the end of the month, it recorded 68,859 unemployed, signifying a reduction of 1,291 people (-1.84%) compared to May. In comparison to June of the previous year, this province has 3,092 fewer unemployed (-4.30%). Meanwhile, the province of Las Palmas reached 73,550 unemployed, with a decrease of 898 people (-1.21%) in the last month and a year-on-year reduction of 5,203 unemployed (-6.61%).
A detailed analysis of the data reveals that the services sector, boosted by the summer campaign, has been the main beneficiary of the unemployment decrease across all economic activities. June proved to be a dynamic month for job offer management, with 63,947 contracts signed across the islands. This represents a 23.15% increase compared to May and a 4.45% rise year-on-year. Of these contracts, 27,757 were permanent and 36,190 were temporary.
The data also highlights a gender gap, with 82,136 unemployed women compared to 60,273 men. Regarding age, 7,266 unemployed individuals are under 25 years old. Unemployment benefit expenditure in the islands amounted to 101.2 million euros in May, with an average recognition time for applications of just 0.44 days.
