The Port of Las Palmas is advancing its infrastructure modernization with a key tender for the León y Castillo Dock, seeking to adapt its facilities for the arrival of new container cranes.

Three companies have submitted bids to carry out adaptation works in the operational area of the León y Castillo Dock. The objective is to meet the technical requirements of the cranes recently acquired by the operator Opcsa, which are essential for managing the increasing volume of large container ships arriving at the Port of Las Palmas.
The companies competing for this contract are Lopesan Asfalto y Construcciones, Hermanos García Álamo, and Asfaltos Jaén. The initial tender budget amounts to 1,921,360.93 euros, a crucial investment for port efficiency.
The Contracting Board of the Port Authority of Las Palmas has forwarded the proposals to the technical commission, which will be responsible for evaluating the documentation and award criteria before issuing a final recommendation. This process coincides with the imminent commissioning of two giant Malaccamax cranes, expected to be operational next week, according to operator sources.
Additionally, the arrival of half of the eight Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes, known as transtainers, is anticipated around the same time. These will renew the machinery of the main container terminal. With these improvements, the Port of Las Palmas aims to reach its maximum capacity of 1.5 million TEU by 2026.
The works include repairing the terminal's pavement, installing supply and connection manholes at the dock's edge, and creating conduits to power the cranes from a new distribution center. These works will be carried out between bollards 46 and 81, in the southern part of the dock, and must be coordinated with the operator to avoid hindering the intense port activity, which will always take priority.
In parallel, other tender processes at the Port of Las Palmas are still under evaluation. Seven companies have shown interest in the contract to provide public lighting for the new esplanade of the Santa Catalina Dock, with bids ranging from 144,656.93 to 231,069.92 euros. Furthermore, the contract for works around the new cruise terminal, also at the Santa Catalina Dock, already has a proposed award to Félix Santiago Melián for 482,924.89 euros.
