The Port of Las Palmas is solidifying its position as a leading naval repair hub, simultaneously hosting five luxury cruise ships in dry dock at Astican facilities, underscoring the high specialization and technical capacity of the Canary Islands' infrastructure.

At a crucial time, as the high season for maritime tourism in the Canary Islands concludes, the Port of Las Palmas has become the chosen destination for five luxury cruise ships undergoing repair and maintenance. These include the Ocean Explorer, the twin ships L'Austral and Le Boreal, the Sea Cloud Spirit, and the Hanse Explorer, all currently at Astican facilities.
These vessels are receiving high-value interventions, ranging from general repairs to significant transformations. A notable example is the installation of new bow bulbs, designed and manufactured in the Canary Islands, on the cruise ships L'Austral and Le Boreal. This hydrodynamic element, located below the waterline, optimizes water flow, reduces drag, and consequently, decreases fuel consumption and pollutant emissions.
The complexity of replacing original bulbs with optimized designs requires a high level of technical specialization, establishing Astican as a national benchmark in such projects. The Ocean Explorer, an expedition cruise ship with a history of navigating the Arctic and Antarctic, is also among the vessels under repair, alongside the luxurious sailing ship Sea Cloud Spirit, known for its gold fittings, and the exclusive exploration cruise ship Hanse Explorer.

"The simultaneous presence of these luxury cruise ships in La Luz reflects the level of specialization that the Port of Las Palmas has achieved in naval repair, leading this sector within the Spanish port system."

The management of the Port Authority of Las Palmas has emphasized that this achievement is not coincidental, but rather the result of the technical expertise and trust earned by Canary Islands' port companies. Such actions, combining innovation, sustainability, and experience, reinforce the port's international positioning and contribute to a more efficient and competitive port model, aligned with the maritime sector's environmental challenges.
