The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canary Institute of Agri-food Quality (ICCA) and in collaboration with Proexca, has set up a 48-square-meter space at this fair to promote the archipelago's wines. The event is designed to connect producers with importers, distributors, and representatives from the HORECA channel and large retailers in markets such as Europe, America (United States, Canada, Mexico), and Asia (China, Japan).
The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food Sovereignty, Narvay Quintero, highlighted the importance of WINEMAD as an international showcase to demonstrate the quality and uniqueness of Canary Islands productions. More than 4,000 professional visitors and 200 international buyers are expected to attend, reinforcing the external presence of the islands' wines.
The wine exports from the Canary Islands reached 177,443 liters last year, with 74% destined for countries outside the European Union. The main markets were the United States (80,774 liters), Canada (10,592), China (4,154), and Japan (2,066), followed by the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Within the EU, Germany, Belgium, France, and the Netherlands stand out.
The participating wineries from Tenerife are Tafuriaste, La Haya, Viña Gómez, El Lomo, and Piedra Fluida. From Lanzarote, Los Bermejos, Casa Althay, Vulcano Lanzarote, and Erupción are attending. Representing La Palma are Teneguía and Veganorte. Operators from Canada, the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, China, Japan, and Singapore have confirmed their attendance.
Within the fair, the Wine Madrid Summit will analyze the sector's challenges and opportunities, including commercialization, sustainability, and diversification. The Canary Islands Enotourism Cluster is coordinating the participation of Canary Islands companies in round tables on wine tourism, gastronomy, and wine culture.
Representatives from wineries such as Daniela Reverón (Bodegas Reverón), Borja de Mesa (Bodegas El Lomo), Carlos Lozano (Bodegas Llanovid SCL), Víctor Lugo (Bodegas Berrazales-Finca La Laja), Sofía Monshawer (Bodegas Piedra Fluida), and Juan Escudero (Bodega Finca Escudero) will participate in various panels.
Minister Quintero emphasized that the forum will allow for a deeper dive into the work lines of the Government of the Canary Islands regarding wine tourism, in coordination with the Canary Islands Enotourism Cluster and the Chair of Agrotourism and Wine Tourism of the ICCA and the ULL. The recent classification of wine tourism as a regulated tourist activity aims to professionalize the offering and strengthen the link between production, territory, and tourist experience.
The event includes the Hosted Buyer program, which facilitates meetings between wineries and international buyers with real decision-making power, as well as tastings, workshops, and immersive experiences. The "Share Experience" initiative will offer interactive tastings and pairing workshops to connect wine with gastronomy, art, and culture.
