The active workforce in Fuerteventura officially stood at 52,609 professionals at the end of June, combining self-employment (9,688) and employed workers (42,921), according to data from the Canary Institute of Statistics (Istac). This figure represents an increase of over 2,300 registrations compared to the previous year and nearly matches the island's highest historical record of 52,770 registrations set in late last year.
Puerto del Rosario remains the municipality with the highest number of active workers, recording 18,641 professionals (15,540 employed and 3,101 self-employed). In contrast, Betancuria shows the lowest figure, with just 179 professionals (138 employed and 41 self-employed), although both municipalities are experiencing growth.
The main tourist municipalities also show an increase. Pájara leads with 13,859 workers (12,547 employed and 1,312 self-employed), followed by La Oliva in the north with 10,896 (7,639 employed and 3,257 self-employed).
The remaining municipalities, Antigua and Tuineje, also report increases. Antigua has 4,709 professionals (3,724 employed and 985 self-employed), while Tuineje totals 4,325 (3,333 employed and 992 self-employed). Both surpass their figures from the summer of 2025.
By sector, services, particularly hospitality, generate the most employment with 19,168 jobs. Commerce follows with 6,090 jobs, albeit with a slight decrease. Agriculture employs 726 people, showing an year-on-year increase, and construction adds 3,535 jobs. The manufacturing industry has 1,057 professionals.
Regarding unemployment, at the beginning of July, there were 5,540 people out of work, an increase from June but lower than the figures from mid-summer last year. Of these, 3,211 are women and 2,329 are men.
