The tourist area of Playa del Inglés continues its modernization process with the conversion of the old Tagoror apartments into a four-star hotel. This project, representing a 5.8 million euro investment, aims to upgrade the accommodation offerings in the south of Gran Canaria.
The developing company, Ashtavinayaka, expects to complete the works by July 2026 and open the establishment, named Hotel Folías Playa del Inglés, in August of the same year. The new hotel will feature 77 accommodation units and 154 beds, an increase from the original 59 apartments. Additionally, the project has received a Feder European aid of 1.44 million euros linked to competitiveness, sustainability, and digitalization.
“"The property was born as one of many apartment complexes that populated Playa del Inglés during the tourist boom decades. Later, as happened in other buildings in the area, the property was fragmented among different owners and the establishment lost homogeneity, direction, and competitive capacity."
The operation stands out not only for its economic scale but also for its symbolism. The original complex, built in 1970, suffered from property fragmentation, a common issue in the area that led to a loss of competitiveness. The developing company acquired all 59 units between 2014 and 2016 to unify management and revitalize the asset.
The transformation of the old Tagoror reflects a trend in Gran Canaria's tourism sector: a commitment to a more categorized and technologically advanced product, aimed at visitors with higher purchasing power. The new hotel will offer two heated swimming pools, suites with private pools or jacuzzis, a gym, wellness area, two dining spaces, and differentiated areas for adults and for all guests. It will also incorporate home automation and advanced connectivity.
This type of project underscores the strategy of updating existing tourist complexes, raising the average category, and improving profitability without needing to increase the number of beds. Although the complex will adopt a new identity, a link to its past will be maintained through the name Café Tagoror for one of its spaces, honoring the historical designation of the property.
