The expansion of the El Tablero shopping center in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, which will convert 14 underground warehouses into new retail units, is set to generate up to 50 direct jobs in the retail sector.

Gestión de Propiedades El Siglo S.L. has submitted documentation to the Government of the Canary Islands to obtain the commercial license for opening 14 new establishments at the El Tablero shopping center in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. This initiative, transforming former warehouses into retail spaces, is expected to create up to 50 new jobs in the retail sector.
The project, underway since 2021, involves adapting 14 underground spaces originally designated as warehouses into commercial units, rather than expanding the building itself. The developer has already secured the change of use for these premises from the Urban Planning department.
Through an urban planning agreement with the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, an additional 4,582.36 square meters will be added, bringing the total commercial area of the complex to 12,389.48 square meters. This marks the first major change to the shopping center since its opening in 2013.
A modification to the municipality's General Urban Planning Plan, approved in June 2020, enabled tertiary use for underground spaces in several areas, including El Tablero.
The documentation indicates that the conversion of these spaces to commercial use will attract at least eight new commercial operators with regional, national, and even international presence, representing established brands.
These new jobs will complement the current 304 employees working at the shopping center and the 16 staff managing its operations. The roles will include management, sales, customer service, and auxiliary services, aiming to boost the economic activity of the center and its surrounding area.
