Unemployment in the Canary Islands Decreases by 1.51% in June

The Archipelago ended the month with 142,409 unemployed individuals, 2,189 fewer than in May and 8,295 fewer than last year.

The Archipelago closed June with 142,409 unemployed people, representing a 1.51% decrease compared to the previous month.

The Ministry of Labor reported that in June, 2,189 fewer unemployed individuals were recorded in the islands compared to May. The year-on-year trend in unemployment in the Canary Islands also shows a decrease of 5.50%, with 8,295 fewer unemployed people than in June of the previous year.
By provinces, Las Palmas ended June with 73,550 unemployed, a 1.21% decrease from the previous month and 6.61% less than a year ago. Santa Cruz de Tenerife registered 68,859 unemployed, representing a 1.84% monthly decrease and a 4.30% year-on-year decrease.
Of the total 142,409 unemployed individuals, 82,136 were women and 60,273 were men. By age, 7,266 were under 25 years old. By sector, unemployment decreased in all of them compared to the previous month: agriculture (-86), industry (-66), construction (-172), services (-1,826), and those who had never worked (-39).
At the midpoint of the year, the Canary Islands had 217,041 job seekers, including employed individuals, those with special working conditions, and the unemployed.
Regarding hiring, 63,947 contracts were signed in the Canary Islands in June, a 23.15% increase from May and a 4.45% increase from the previous year. Of these, 27,757 were permanent and 36,190 were temporary.
Unemployment benefit claims filed in the islands by the end of May amounted to 28,294, with an associated expenditure of 101.2 million euros.
