The affiliation of foreign workers to the Social Security system in the Canary Islands has shown significant growth, surpassing 140,000 contributors in March, marking a 5.3% increase compared to the previous year.

According to recent data from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, the Canary Islands concluded the month of March with a total of 140,956 foreign affiliates. This figure reflects a 5.3% increase compared to the same period last year, and a slight rise of 0.4% from the previous month of February.
Nationally, the trend is also upward, with a new historical record of 3,151,563 foreign workers affiliated in Spain during March, which is 74,722 more contributors than the previous month, representing a 2.4% growth. This group currently accounts for 14.4% of all contributors in the country.
Over the last year, the number of foreign contributors nationwide has increased by 230,358 people, translating into a 7.9% interannual boost. Since March 2022, the number of foreign affiliates has added over 852,000 workers, highlighting that 42.9% of the employment created since the implementation of the labor reform corresponds to foreign workers.

"The affiliation of foreigners continues to show extraordinary behavior that impacts the whole; it is not in vain that workers from other countries represent a significant 14.4% of contributors. Their contribution to our labor market is key. It sustains sectors such as hospitality, where one in three workers is from another country, and boosts entrepreneurship, as the number of foreign self-employed individuals already exceeds half a million."
